Biswajit Mandal is currently a Professor of Economics at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (CSSSC), India. Before joining CSSSC, he served as a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, where he also held the position of Deputy Dean of Vidya Bhavana (Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences). In addition to his tenure at Visva-Bharati, Prof. Mandal has taught at several esteemed institutions, including Soka University, Tokyo, University of Calcutta, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Rabindra Bharati University, and St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.
An alumnus of the Department of Economics, Calcutta University, and CSSSC, Prof. Mandal is a recipient of the National Scholarship (Government of India) and a Research Fellowship from the University Grants Commission (UGC). His academic journey includes a prestigious Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship, enabling him to conduct research at Kobe University, Japan. He also completed his postdoctoral studies as a C.V. Raman Fellow at the University at Albany, SUNY, in the United States.
Some of his books are: International Trade, Resource Mobility and Adjustments in a Changing World - Essays in Memory of Ronald W. Jones (2024) from Springer-Nature; Virtual Trade in a Changing World (2023) from Cambridge University Press; Virtual Trade and Comparative Advantage- The Fourth Dimension (2020) from Springer-International. He is now serving as the Associate Editor of South Asian Journal of Macroeconomics and Public Finance (Sage), and the Book Review Editor of Journal of Asian Economic Integration (Sage). He is one of the Editors of Arthabisleson, a national-level journal published in Bengali. Apart from those editorial assignments, he regularly writes op-ed columns for Bengali daily Ei Samay.
Prof. Mandal’s primary research interests lie in International Trade and Development, with a growing focus on various aspects of Health Economics.
